Donald Harvey Winter, 80, of Sheridan Road in Niles, died on Friday, March 14, 2008 at his home with his family by his side.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, at Brown Funeral Home &Cremation Services of Niles, with a time of visitation one hour prior. Pastor William Dudgeon will be officiating.
He was born on March 11, 1928, to the late Everett and Helene (Winckler) Winter in Detroit.
On June 18, 1949, he married Phyllis Morgan at a ceremony in Detroit. Together they had four children. he was retired from Clark Equipment Company after 32 years of service
He enjoyed playing the drums both professionally and for the 686 Army Air Force Band during World War II. He also enjoyed all aspects of nature including gardening and feeding the birds and squirrels, and will be remembered by his family and friends for his sense of humor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Phyllis and a sister, Carol Winter.
Surviving family includes his one son, Donald Winter Jr. of Niles; three daughters, Lynn (Kenneth) Wisniewski of Niles, Sheryl Steiner of Phoenix, Ariz. and Betty Tacy of Mishawaka, Ind.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Hospice at Home, Inc., 4025 Health Park Lane; St. Joseph, MI 49085.
