Chief Tom Atkinson of the Dowagiac Police Department reports that on Saturday, Feb. 23, at around 12:34 a.m., his officers investigated a motor vehicle accident with injury.
The incident occurred on W. Railroad Street in the 200 block.
Police officers responded to the accident along with the Dowagiac Fire Department and Life EMS.
An investigation revealed that a southbound Pontiac driven by a 22-year-old male subject struck a legally parked sedan on W. Railroad Street.
The parked sedan was then pushed into a small pick up truck that was parked in a driveway at a residence.
Neither the sedan or the pick up truck was occupied.
The driver of the Pontiac received apparent minor injuries. He was treated at the scene and released.
The driver was arrested by police for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
The driver was lodged at Cass County Jail with a $300 bond.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the accident.
A witness reported seeing a second white male subject exit the passenger side of the Pontiac. The subject was not located. Police ask that the second subject or anyone who might know the second subject contact the Dowagiac Police Department to advise police of the passenger's well being. The Dowagiac Police Department phone number is (269) 782-9743.
