MARSHALL – The roll continues for the Niles girls' varsity basketball team.
The Lady Vikings won their 11th straight contest Friday night with a 58-41 victory over host Marshall in a Big 16 Conference non-divisional game.
"We went for a long road trip and passed with flying colors," Niles coach Jim Arnold said. "Due to rain leakage in Marshall's main gym, we had to go across the street to the elementary gym to play the game. Our girls were up for the challenge.
"We scored in transition, off turnovers, ran our offense well and beat a good Marshall team. We went up by 26 at one point and shot the lights out (21-of-42) from the field," he added.
Niles (14-3) took command of the game right from the start, outscoring Marshall 18-5 in the opening eight minutes of play.
The Lady Vikings' lead was cut to 24-15 at halftime, but they reached double figures again by the end of the third quarter, 38-24.
Courtney Teske had a big night for the Lady Vikings with a game-high 15 points.
Niles also got 13 points from Basia Cox, while Lindsay Craig and Kaitlyn Touhey both finished with eight points. Nicole Sly and Autumn Lucero each contributed six points.
Niles held a commanding 25-17 advantage in rebounding.
"Our scoring balance was a plus again and defensively we got after them. The girls have been playing very unselfish and with a lot of confidence," Arnold said.
Kerry VanDyke led Marshall with 13 points.
