NILES – Emily Ross of Buchanan and Ben Brandstatter of Niles have been named the Leader Publications Athletes of the Week for the Niles Daily Star.
Ross had 90 assists, 30 digs, 10 kills and four blocks as the Buchanan varsity volleyball team reached the semifinals of the St. Joseph Invitational on Saturday.
Brandstatter rushed for 228 yards and scored five touchdowns in Niles' 49-0 victory over Benton Harbor.
Each week one boy and one girl will be selected as the Athlete of the Week.
The athletes are selected from nominations from their coaches.
