A couple of weeks ago, Valerie Burns of Mishawaka (Ind.) Penn and Mike Fout of LaPorte (Ind.) captured titles at Steve's Run.
The two returned to Dowagiac on Saturday morning to win their respective races at the fifth annual Viking Stampede hosted by Niles High School.
The race was held at Dowagiac Middle School, which includes some of the same trails Burns and Fout raced on during Steve's Run.
Fout led LaPorte to the team championship in the boys' division. LaPorte finished with a team score of 26.
Burns helped Penn to a second place finish in the girls' race. Northridge was the winner with 39 points, while Penn finished with 72.
Niles finished ninth and Dowagiac finished 10th with 235 and 322 points respectively.

"The Indiana schools are tough enough, but give them a two-week head start in practice and it makes it real tough for Michigan schools to compete with them," Dowagiac coach Ken Jordan said. "We did see a couple of special high school runners in Fout and Burns.
"It was a place for us to start. We'll get better and have more kids ready to race next time," Jordan added.
