It has been a magical summer for the Greater Niles Baseball League's Senior All-Stars.
They have been crowned champions at four different levels the past two months and are now getting ready to head to Bangor, Maine for the Little League Senior League World Series.
Niles captured district, section and state championships before heading off to Peru, Ill. last week to compete in the Central States Regional.
Niles went undefeated in the tournament and knocked off Iowa 3-0 to capture the regional championship and thus, punch their ticket to the World Series.
On only one other occasion has Niles sent a team away to the World Series. That was back in the days of Babe Ruth. No Little League team has ever advanced to the national tournament.
We want to wish the players and coaches good luck as they head out Saturday morning for Bangor.
We also want to congratulate them on a job well done. You are already winners in our eyes.
A tip of the hat to all the parents and fans, who have followed the team across the state of Michigan, across part of the Midwest and are now preparing to follow them across to the eastern seaboard.
Tonight the team will be honored at Thomas Stadium with a small ceremony at 7 p.m.
We would encourage everyone to come out and show the team just how proud we are and that we are behind them all the way.
Good Luck All-Stars at the World Series.
