Niles F.O.P. All-Stars third at districts

NILES – The Niles F.O.P. 7-8 All-Star team took third place in the Michigan District 15 tournament held last week.
Niles went 4-1 in the tournament, losing in the semifinals.
Niles…7
Three Rivers…0
Niles began District 15 tournament play by defeating Three Rivers 7-0 in a rain shortened game.
The All-Stars were led offensively by Noah Frantz with a double and a triple, Elyse Zimmerman with a double and a single, and Alex Jasper and Austin Hurt with two singles each.
Cody Glick added a double and Joey Covyeou a single.

Schoolcraft…6
The Niles F.O.P. All-Stars continued pool play with a 7-6 win over Schoolcraft.
The All-Stars were led offensively by Covyeou with two doubles and a single, Frantz and Hurt each with a double and a single, Jasper with a double and two singles, Tayton Stevens with a double and Zimmerman and Glick each with a single.

Constantine…4
The All-Stars won against Constantine 14-4 in four innings to continue pool play in the district tournament.
Leading Niles at the plate were Jasper with an inside-the-park home run and two singles.
Frantz and Covyeou both doubled and singled twice, while Zimmerman with two doubles, Glick and Jerod Glenn had a double and a single, Hurt had two singles and Jake Lalone, Justin Leonard and Brenton Harrell each had a hit.

Centreville…4
Niles finished pool play with a win over Centreville 13-4.
The All-Stars were led at the plate by Covyeou with two doubles and two singles, Glick with a double and a triple, Zimmerman with a double and two singles and Frantz and Lalone, each with three singles.
Jasper and Hurt each with two singles, while Leonard and Stevens with a single each.

West Portage…9
Niles F.O.P. lost in the semifinal game of the District 15 tournament by a score of 9-8 to West Portage.
The All-Stars took an early 5-0 lead, but West Portage battled back scoring 4 runs to tighten the game. Niles led through the top of the sixth inning, but then West Portage scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the win.
Leading the Niles All-Stars were Glick with a home run and a single, Covyeou with two doubles and a single and Jasper with a double and two singles.
Austin Hurt finished with a triple and a single, Frantz and Leonard with a double and a single, and Damien Novak, Harrell and Stevens each with a single.
Glick was recognized for being the only player in the entire tournament to have a home run over the fence.
