Council approves police car purchase

NILES – Monday night's city council meeting was, well, short and sweet.
In a meeting that lasted no more than 20 minutes, the council approved everything on the agenda for the night.
Among some of the items approved were requests from the Utilities Department to purchase consumable parts for the bar screen at the Wastewater Treatment Plant at a cost of $8,109.30. Also, the Niles Police Department requested to purchase a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria police packaged vehicle from Campbell Ford in Niles.
Other items before the council Monday:
Approval of the proposed SMCAS budget for Fiscal Year 2007/2008 which includes an increased special assessment in the amount of $20.00 per parcel/unit.
Approved construction of local improvements for Brown/Bryant streets as stated, creating a special assessment district for adjacent and abutting properties in the improvement area, directing the city assessor to prepare a special assessment roll of the district and directing the City Administrator to have detailed profiles, plans and specifications prepared for formal approval and adoption.
A resolution to direct filing of an assessment roll and other information with the city clerk and directing the city clerk to give notice of a public hearing for July 9, 2007 at 7:25 p.m. to receive input from all interested property owners or parties with interest in the special assessment district.
A resolution to approve the final project plan for the wastewater treatment plant and collection system improvements and to designate City Administrator Terry Eull as the Authorized Project Representative for all activities associated with the project.
Approving the re-appointment of James Dayton to a three-year term to the City of Niles Planning Commission effective June 26, 2007 and expiring on April 30, 2010.
