I knew this spring sports season was going to be filled with excitement, but I actually think the most exciting part has yet to arrive.
If you've been following the recent high school rankings, you've probably noticed our area has quite a few teams ranking in the top 10 in the state – the highest ranking being the Niles varsity softball team, who is sitting in the No. 1 position of the latest Division 2 polls.
Way to go Lady Vikes!
Buchanan's softball team is also very high in the rankings, as the Lady Bucks are No. 2 in Division 3.
Brandywine moved from being a Division 3 honorable mention at the beginning of the season, to No. 10, and now they sit at No. 8.
This means all three of our area softball teams are ranked in the state! How often does that happen? It doesn't. That's why I feel priviledged when I tell people that our paper covers all three schools.
Other teams ranked are Brandywine's soccer team, which sits at No. 7 in Division 4. Buchanan's tennis team is ranked No. 5 in Division 4.
One team not ranked, which I think deserves a lot of recognition is Brandywine's baseball team. I've had a chance to see these guys play a few times this season and they are tough! So tough, that they split with Berrien Springs earlier this week. The Shamrocks are last year's state champions and are ranked No. 1 in Division 3.
Brandywine should have won both of those games if you ask me. They were ahead for the entire first game, but fell on a great hit by a Berrien player.
I think we will be seeing a few district, regional, and maybe even state titles this season.
It's been exciting to watch all of the teams, even though most of the time I am in for a quick second to take pictures, then off to another event. But I really enjoy watching all of our teams. We have a lot of competition in the area, and if you haven't been to a high school event yet, I highly recommend it.
Keep up the good work!

I owe a huge thank you to all of our area coaches and a few of the parents as well. I believe this is the first season that most of my coaches have been a huge help in getting results turned into the paper. I cannot say thank you enough. This season has been a very busy one so far, and it's been hard for me to get to every event.
There are still a few cases in which I am not getting results, so if you're not seeing your team's results in the paper, let me know or ask the coach. We had a few small incidents, but I believe they have been resolved.
Thanks again to everyone who has helped out this season. People love to see results in the paper and I enjoy getting as much in as I possibly can to keep our readers up to date with what's going on in the sports scene.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the wonderful weather!
