NILES – It's always an added bonus when a team can walk away from Senior Night with a victory.
That's the story in Wednesday evening's Cross Over soccer match on Niles' home field.
The Lady Vikes captured a 2-1 win over visiting Battle Creek Harper Creek, with senior Raphella Riegger scoring both goals for Niles. Bryanna Cramer provided the assists for both.
It was the senior leadership of Nicole Brooks, Abby Mitchell, Tierria Murphy, Gyde Nissen, Mandie Pingel and Tiegger that started the match out strong and helped the Vikes to victory.
Junior Courtney Teske was the winning keeper for Niles, with a strong and commanding performance in the net.
Head coach Denise Peters gave credit to other players, including Meghan Horn, who worked hard to win offensive touches and played an outstanding game for the Vikings. Dakota Price fought fiercely for offensive touches and sent many good balls for scoring opportunities.
The Niles defense consisting of Mitchell, Brittany Molnar, Bryanna Cramer and Kate Touhey played solid as usual for the Vikings.
Niles travels to Sturgis for a Friday night match.
Junior varsity
Niless JV team lost a tough match to the Beavers 3-1, but played a solid match.
Katie Butler played strong in the net and Niles moved the ball well. Lindsay Fulk scored for the Vikings.
