Trojans take two overVikes

NILES – Niles' varsity baseball team traveled to East Lansing on Saturday, where the Trojans claimed the doubleheader win over the Vikes.
East Lansing took a 7-6, 7-4 victory, bumping Niles to 7-6 overall.
After four innings of play in game one, the Vikes had a 6-4 advantage. East Lansing tied the game in the bottom of the seventh by scoring two runs. In the eighth, the Trojans claimed the win by bringing one run across the plate.
Top hitters for Niles in the first game were DJ Wolnik, going 2-for-3 with two singles. Tim Hardy went 2-for-4 with a single and a double. Taylor Robson went 2-for-4 with two single and Zach Bloss went 2-for-3 with a single and a double.
Mike Gruhn was the winning pitcher, while Bloss suffered the loss. Bloss had four strikeouts.
In game two, Niles wasted no time jumping to an early lead and posted a 3-0 score at the end of the first inning. The Trojans made an attempt to come back in the second inning, bringing two runs across the plate. They were able to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth, before scoring four unanswered runs in the fifth.
Hardy was the lone top hitter in the second game as he went 1-for-3 with a double.
Mike Service was the winning pitcher, while Robson suffered the loss.
The Vikes will travel to Battle Creek Lakeview on Tuesday.
