NILES – The Niles and Brandywine varsity soccer teams met on the field Friday night, where both teams competed fiercely.
The game ended in a 0-0 score after two overtime periods.
Niles coach Denise Peters said the Vikings played very consistently getting many opportunities at the net, they were just unlucky with the finish. She also said that Brandywine has great speed at the top and good middle play and had a few quality shots on the Vikings.
"It was a good game and it was nice to see us finally play as a team," Peters said. "Our defense is always solid and Brittney Molnar played with great consistency in the middle. Kate Touhey is a fierce competitor and played extrememly tough with Abby Mitchell to stop the speed Brandywine brought. Bryanna Cramer always plays smart and consistent, covering for everyone."
Peters continued, saying Autumn Lucero did a great job in the box and communicating with her team. "Mandie Pingel and Raphella Riegger controlled middle play with great efforts from Tierria Murphy, Sarah Tyler, Allison Ott and Alyssa Pingel. Meghan Horn and Alyssa Booe brought great pressure on the Brandywine defense, but were unable to put it in the net. Dakota Price and Heather Casey stepped in where needed and contributed to the strong field play," Peters ended.
Brandywine is back in action today when it hosts Bridgman for a 5 p.m. Lakeland Conference game.
Niles is hosting the SMAC East Division Crossover on Wednesday.
