Bobcats can’t top Eddies

NILES – The Brandywine varsity tennis team hosted Edwardsburg Friday afternoon and fell to the Eddies 5-3 in a Lakeland Conference match.
At No. 1 singles, Tyler Espick suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss against Nate Harness of the Eddies.
Travis Bakeman of the Bobcats was defeated by Tyler Keadle, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
Tyler Weeks fell to Khris Merrill 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Brandywine's Billy McDonald claimed the only win in singles play as he took a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Tom Blunier at the No. 4 spot.
In doubles action, Jeremy Hechtl and Dan Whitney won a very close match for the Bobcats against Adam Young and Matt Hayes. The pair fell in the first set, 6-3, but bounced back to claim 6-4, 7-6 and 7-0 wins in the next three.
Kyle Low and Taylor Brenner were also victorious in their match, defeating Matt Bosler and Zac Karmalegos 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 doubles.
At the No. 2 position, Brandywine's Matt Harvey and Joel Perry fell to Matt Marbach and Anthony Hansen, 7-5, 6-1.
Greg Beaver and Ethan Mason fell to Zac Ake and Todor Gadiev of the Eddies at No. 3 doubles, 7-5, 7-6, 7-9.
The Bobcats will hit the road today for another Lakeland Conference match-up against Coloma beginning at 4 p.m.
