NILES – A change of location for upcoming elections May 8 was announced at Monday night's Niles Township meeting.
Also, a date was set to consider a tax break for a new Niles Township business, Repellex USA, Inc.
Instead of casting ballots at Fairland Christian Church, the township's Precinct 1 voters will vote at the South County Building, 1205 N. Front St., Niles.
"We need the press to help us out on this one. Fairland Christian Church, 1811 River Bluff Road, is our voting location for Precinct 1. As they had never been part of school elections before, they were surprised when I notified them of the upcoming election. They have a revival set for the same day and the facility will not be available," said Marge Durm-Hiatt, township clerk.
Election notifications have already gone out in the mail with the Fairland Church address as the voting place. However, voters are instead asked to cast their ballots at the South County Building.
Township officials said the change in location applies only to the May 8 school election.
Also Monday night, officials at Repellex asked the board to consider its request for a public hearing, to be held on May 7 at 7:15 p.m., to consider establishing an Industrial Development District for the property located at 1445 S. Third St.
The company is owned by partners Eric and Elizabeth Summa of Granger, Ind., and minority owner, Amar Greywald of Vancouver, Canada. The company's project fact sheet states it hopes to create four new jobs within the next two years.
Repellex manufactures all-natural animal repellents, insecticides and herbicides. It was established in early 2007 to acquire the product line from an established Canadian company.
The request for the public meeting was approved.
In other business, the board:
Approved fireworks permits for Orchard Hills. The request was for both June 29 and July 4.
Voted to approve precinct workers for the May 8 election
Approved the contract with Milton Twp. formalizing the verbal contract the townships shared for past 15 years.
