THREE RIVERS – Lakeside Melodies at Little Pleasant Lake hosts another acoustic benefit concert at March 31, starting at 7 pm.
This benefit concert will support Goodwill Industries.
Stars of the evening are Bob Holderbaum and Tom Molby, The Village Singers.
Opening act is Drew and Joy Frailey.
Entrance is free.
The Village Singers do folk-style music, humor and magic.
Bob Holderbaum and Tom Molby have known each other since high school in Kalamazoo – when folk music was in its prime.
With a third person, Bob and Tom had a folk trip in high school.
Some of the same tunes they did back then will be performed March 31. Bob lives in Battle Creek; Tom resides in Nashville, Tenn.
Though far apart geographically, they are in touch – and will do a show that will feature both duos and each doing his own solo.
Bob plays 12-string guitar and five-string banjo.
Tom plays six-string guitar and five-string banjo.
For several years, Bob did solo shows at the Discovery Theatre in Battle Creek.
About two years ago, Tom shared that stage with Bob.
Currently, Bob plays regularly – in the course of his work -as CEO of Goodwill Industries in Battle Creek.
He takes the Goodwill message to all sorts of not-for-profit groups.
Tom is multi-talented, being a song writer and having performed as a folk and gospel-type singer, a stand-up comedian and as a magician.
In addition to some of the Kingston Trio hits of the '60s, The Village Singers will feature sing-alongs with the audience.
Bob will feature his signature song, Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald."
Tom will feature his own works.
The Village Singers promise an evening of wholesome, fun entertainment.
Bill Bosler, owner of Lakeside Melodies Resort and a musician for 30 years, is happy to have these performers on stage.
"Their music is great, they are fun to watch and sure to get everyone singing and smiling. It will be fun for everyone from 9 to 90."
Opening for the Village Singers will be regional artists Drew and Joy Frailey.
Drew (vocals, guitar, mandolin) has taught guitar, accompanied area musicians in their recordings and opened for Christian singer Eli in 2001.
Joy (vocals, guitar, bodhran) comes from a Scots-Irish/Cherokee family with a four-generation appreciation and performance of music.
Her love of Celtic and traditional music is reflected in her original songs.
Drawing from an eclectic musical combination from medieval to contemporary, they perform 40 to 50 concerts annually throughout Michiana.
They may also be joined by their daughter, Adrienne (vocals, guitar), who brings her own insightful songwriting to the next generation. Together, they will perform an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary folk/rock/roots, Celtic and Christian and traditional ballads.
