Defending champion Sturgis captured the Class B District Volleyball Tournament championship on Saturday with a victory over Paw Paw at Three Rivers High School.
The Lady Trojans knocked off the Lady Redskins in the final, 21-25, 30-28, 25-18 and 25-16.
Sturgis reached the title match with a 25-23, 25-17 and 25-20 win over Vicksburg in the semifinals.
Paw Paw advanced to the championship match with a 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 21-25 and 15-10 victory over Three Rivers, which defeated Dowagiac in the opening match of the tournament.
The Lady Wildcats eliminated the Chieftains, 25-17, 25-13, 23-25 and 25-16.
"It would have been nice to have my whole team there, but that didn't happen," Dowagiac coach Carl Greulich said. "I still thought the replacement players did a good job, namely Kathy Lindt and Kayla Saviano. Senior Brittany Bruens and sophomore Emily Primley did a great job of hitting, but Three Rivers just out hustled us on the defensive end. That gave them more chances to beat us. Allison Frontczak kept the pressure on with her blocking."
Bruens and Primley finished with 16 and 13 kills respectively.
Frontczak had three blocks, while Primley finished with a block. Dowagiac also got eight digs from Tasia Diaz. Stephanie Barnas added 24 digs and two aces. Calie Daniels had an ace.
