DUHS freshmen, JV top Three Rivers

The Dowagiac freshmen basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 59-54 win over visiting Three Rivers on Thursday in overtime.
Dowagiac led must of the way, but were caught by the Wildcats at the end of regulation.
Despite playing without three regulars, the Chieftains were able to put the Wildcats away in the extra session.
Brandon Douglas led the Chieftains with a game-high 30 points.
Dowagiac also got 16 points from Cody Cox and nine points from Pierre Reed.
JV basketball
Dowagiac doubled up Three Rivers in the final eight minutes on Tuesday night to rally for a 50-44 victory.
The Chieftains, who trailed the Wildcats 32-26 heading into the fourth quarter, outscored Three Rivers 24-12 to improve to 7-12 on the season.
Dowagiac led 14-10 after one period of play, but had to settle for a 17-17 tie at halftime.
Three Rivers outscored Dowagiac 15-9 in the third quarter to take the lead heading into the final frame.
Shaun Bruens led a balanced Chieftain offense with 14 points. Dowagiac also got 11 points from Zach Russom and seven points from Dre Kiser off the bench.
The Chieftains will wrap up the regular season on Friday night by hosting Paw Paw.
The freshmen game is scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m., with the junior varsity tilt slated for approximately 5:45 p.m.
