NILES – Niles' varsity basketball team hosted Marshall Friday night for a SMAC West Division game and fell to the Redhawks, 46-34.
Head coach Todd Pawielski said, despite the loss, the team played very well and played one of the best defensive games.
"That was the fewest points we have given up in the last 10 games. We just couldn't get our shots in when we needed to," Pawielski said.
Danny Rodts had eight points for Niles. Jordan Parks had six and Kurt Bourbonnais added five.
The Vikes will travel to Battle Creek Central today for a make-up game.
The Niles junior varsity team also suffered a loss Friday, falling 59-27 to Marshall.
