CASSOPOLIS – For the May 8, 2007 school election, there will be one, four year term, expiring June 30, 2011 and one, unexpired term, ending June 30, 2008.
One seat is presently held by Gary Solloway and the other by David Weiss, who was appointed last March to serve on the board, too late for the May, 2006 ballot.
The filing deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at 4 p.m. at the Cass County Clerk's office
A candidate who wishes to seek a position on the Cassopolis Public Schools Board of Education must file a Nominating Petition and two copies of an Affidavit of Identity, no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007.
The number of qualified signatures required is a minimum of six (6), and a maximum of twenty (20). A candidate can avoid filing a petition by paying a filing fee of $100 to the LaGrange Township Clerk. The fee must be paid on or before the filing deadline for petitions. The candidate must still file an Affidavit of Identify.
Petition and affidavit forms may be picked up either at the school office, 63700 Brick Church Road, Cassopolis, MI 49031, or the LaGrange Township Clerk, 24745 Cass St., Dowagiac, MI 49047.
Petition and affidavit forms are to be filed at the Cass County Clerk's office, Cass County Building, 120 N. Broadway, Cassopolis, MI.
Effective March 31, 1997 PA 461 requires a write-in candidate seeking any federal, state, county, city, township, village or school office to file a "Declaration of Intent" in advance of the election.
Write-in votes cast for a candidate who has not filed a declaration of intent are invalid and do not count.
