The Dowagiac varsity volleyball team defeated host Allegan on Thursday night in four games.
The Chieftains picked up the Wolverine Conference win by defeating the Lady Tigers, 17-25, 25-21, 25-21 and 25-17.
The win was the second in the league for the Chieftains, who defeated South Haven earlier in the year.
Senior Brittany Bruens was a force for the Chieftains on Thursday night.
Bruens led the team in kills with 17, was second in aces with four and tops on the squad in digs with 14.
"Brittany Bruens had a good night at Allegan," Dowagiac coach Carl Greulich said. "I think you can see from the stats that she was a leader in most categories. We need that senior leadership and she did a nice job."
Allison Frontczak had 10 kills for the Chieftains, who also got six aces, 11 digs and four blocks from Emily Primley.
Sarah Shelton led the team in blocks with seven. Stephanie Barnas led the team in assists with 32.
"Emily Primley and Sarah Shelton came through on defense again," Greulich said. "Good blocking set up easy digs for our back row. This team continues to mature and gets better with each game."
Dowagiac will be back on the court on Thursday, Jan. 25 when it hosts Comstock for another Wolverine Conference match. The freshmen and junior varsity squads will begin the evening at 5:30 p.m. The varsity will take the court after the completion of the freshmen and JV matches.
