CASSOPOLIS – It's time for Optimist Soccer sign up at Ross Beatty High School on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. until noon, for ages from kindergarten through eighth grade. Deadline for registration is Jan. 31. The registration fee is $30 per player or $50 for all members of an immediate family.
This spring will mark the 30th year of Optimist Club sponsorship of Youth Soccer in southwestern Michigan. In 1978, there were 100 players on seven teams and last year there were more than 1,350 players on 89 teams within the Niles, Buchanan and Cassopolis area.
The primary purpose is to provide area youth with the opportunity to have good physical exercise, to learn something about the world's most popular sport, to better understand teamwork and sportsmanship and have FUN!
The Optimists are looking for league coaches and assistants. No past experience is necessary. You will be provided training and reading materials to help make coaching a positive experience. All we require is that each coach enjoys working with the youth and is dedicated to the kids, to have a fun and good learning experience.
They are also looking for Team Sponsors, whether a business, industry or individual. The sponsorship fee is $150 per team. If you are interested in coaching or sponsoring a team, contact Donna Rhodes (Cassopolis Optimist President) at (269) 445-1951. Visit the website at www.nilesoptimist.org/osl
