Cass home destroyed in early morning fire

CASSOPOLIS – Cassopolis and Penn Township fire departments responded to an explosion and fire at a First Street residence in Cassopolis this morning at approximately 7:15 a.m.
According to fire department reports, fire fed by a gas line engulfed a two-story house, forcing units to close the streets surrounding the area. School buses and children were reportedly diverted away from the area.
Fire units called for gas company officials to shut off the gas feeding the fire, and they reportedly arrived at 8:47 a.m.
Injuries are unknown at this time, but LifeCare Ambulance Service also responded to the fire and was on scene.
