NILES – Despite overnight snowfall in the Niles area, the Niles Street Department began collecting Christmas trees today, according to Neil Coulston, public works director.
Today's collection will be the only collection throughout the city, beginning with the First Ward, then moving on to the Second, Third and lastly the Fourth Ward.
This is only for real trees; artificial trees will not be picked up.
Residents who do not want to discard their tree now can have it removed in early spring when the regular brush-chipping program resumes.
