Dowagiac junior Sarah Shelton and senior Nate Behnke have been named the Daily News Athletes of the Week for Dec. 25-30.
Shelton led the Dowagiac varsity volleyball team with 13 kills as the Chieftains competed in their own invitational on Dec. 28 at the Dowagiac Middle School.
The Chieftains head back to the court on Thurday, Jan. 11 when they travel to Vicksburg for a Wolverine Conference match.
Behnke posted a 4-1 record at the Geoff Rogers Wrestling Classic at Gull Lake High School in Richland on Dec. 28.
The Chieftains posted a 3-2 record at the tournament, defeating Cedar Springs, host Gull Lake and Kalamazoo Loy Norrix.
Dowagiac was defeated by Jenison and Edwardsburg.
The Dowagiac wrestling team is back in action on Saturday as it travels to Decatur for the Chad Reeves Tournament.
Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
Each week, the Daily News will select two Athletes of the Week.
The selections come from nominations from the Dowagiac Union High School coaching staff.
