DMS teams gain a split

The Dowagiac Middle School eighth grade Black team finished the season with a three-game winning streak.
The Chieftains capped their season Monday afternoon with a 53-51 overtime victory over host St. Joe Upton.
The win gave Dowagiac a final record of 5-6.
Corey Rodgers led the Chieftains with 12 points. Cody Carnell added 10 points, while Troy Butcher and Tremail Butcher finished with eight and six points respectively.
Buddy Neumann and Anthony Nelson chipped in with four points apiece. Darius Wilson, Austin Adams and Jason Turner all contributed two points.
The Orange team dropped a 42-20 decision in its final game of the season to St. Joe Upton.
Anthony Russell led the Chieftains with six points. Dowagiac also got five points from Ryne Lindsey, four points for Ryan McCuddy and three points from Collin Tidey.
Aaron Blaske chipped in with two points.
Seventh grade
The Dowagiac Middle School seventh grade Orange and Black basketball teams split with visiting St. Joe Upton in their season finale.
The Black team defeated Upton 35-18 to finish the year with a 5-6 record. The Orange team dropped a 17-14 decision to the Bears.
Anthony Banks led the Black team with 13 points. Dowagiac also got six points from James Holder and Rolandis Russell.
Craig Zebell finished with five points, Jacob Williams and Eric Charles chipped in with three and two points respectively.
Sam Courtney paced the Orange team with five points. Paul Hyde finished with four points, while Jeremy Juday and Seth Morris both added two points.
Brandon Strand scored a point for the Chieftains.
