Vikings trap Bears

NILES – St. Joseph was no match for the Niles varsity wrestling team as the Vikings exploded with a 53-9 Big 16 West Division win Thursday night.
Kenyon Ellison got the ball rolling for the Vikes when he pinned Andy Rosenthal in the 275-pound class at the 2:22 mark.
A 20-5 decision by Gage Pearison at 103-pounds and a forfeit win by Marcus Bricker at 112-pounds put the Vikes up 17-0.
The Bears' first win came at 119 when D.J. Vermilyer took an 8-6 win over Cameron Pearison.
Jake Glueckert (125), Bryce Flannery (130), Andrew Karsten (135), Nate Heiermann (140) and John Wreggelsworth won the next five matches for Niles, giving the Vikings a 41-3 advantage.
McCade Reese suffered an 8-4 loss to Jamial Jackson at 152-punds, while Ben Brandstatter won by 4-0 decision over Dustin Phelan at 160-pounds.
Derek Purcell and Chad Nichols picked up the last two wins of the night for the Vikes at 171- and 215-pounds respectively, while Alex Zanders suffered a 7-3 loss to Mark Lockwood at 189.
Niles will return to the mats on Saturday when it travels to the Eau Claire Invitational. Match times begin at 9 a.m.
