DAR Good Citizens

CASSOPOLIS – Five area high school seniors were honored Monday afternoon and treated to tea.
The Good Citizen Tea is a favorite holiday event of the Capt. Samuel Felt Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Each December, the ladies present certificates and pins to high school students chosen by chairman Sarah Essex of Brandywine High School, as her mother did before her.
Adam Bruni
Adam Bruni, 18, of Brandywine High School in Niles, is the son of Matthew and Lisa Bruni.
He plays bassoon in the band and is the drum major. He is in National Honor Society and runs track.
Bruni is in management at Eby Games at University Park Mall.
He hopes to attend Michigan State to study veterinary medicine.
Through Brandywine's career academy program, he has the opportunity to learn at Lake Michigan College and Lakeland Hospital in Niles.
Andrew Cuthbert
Andrew Cuthbert, 18, of Dowagiac Union High School, is the son of Doug and Marilyn Cuthbert.
The National Honor Society president has 13 varsity letters in cross country, soccer, tennis and basketball.
He is also vice president of Humanities Club and in the Student Senate.
He plays guitar and is worship leader at his church at Sister Lakes and also plays trumpet in the school band.
He wants to attend school in Indiana, possibly at Taylor University or Indiana Wesleyan University.
Ryan Green
Ryan Green, 18, along with being a senior at Ross Beatty High School, attends Southwestern Michigan College, taking pre-calculus and chemistry.
He plays football and is in 4-H, Spanish Club and FFA president.
He works at Community Mills in Cassopolis and is the son of Jeff and Debbie Green.
Green plans on attending Michigan State University and working toward a Ph.D. in agricultural engineering.
Julie Harness
Julie Harness, 18, is the daughter of Tim and Cindy Harness. She is a senior at Edwardsburg High School.
Her principal, David Zech, pinned on her Good Citizen pin.
In National Honor Society, Student Council and president of SADD, Harness also in on the varsity basketball and track teams.
She works in a church nursery and hopes to become an elementary school teacher, studying at the University of Michigan.
Morgan Hickman
Morgan Hickman, 17, is in 4-H, is president of National Honor Society at Marcellus High School and treasurer of Student Council.
She plans on attending Grand Valley State and studying mechanical engineering.
When the ice cream parlor is closed, she works instead with her dad, she said. She is the daughter of Todd and Adele Watkins.
"I brought my band," Hickman said. She plays baritone saxophone.
Joseph Lekan directed the Marcellus High School Jazz Ensemble which entertained those in attendance.
Refreshments were by Velma Schrage, Mary Ann Upp and Abigail Schten.
