Mustangs win tourney

CASSOPOLIS – Volleyball season got under way for eight area teams at the Cassopolis Athletic Booster Volleyball Invitational on Saturday at Ross Beatty High School.
River Valley went 6-0 on the day and defeated Buchanan in the finals to take home the championship hardware.
The Lady Mustangs defeated the Lady Bucks 19-25, 25-17 and 15-8 in the title match.
River Valley reached the finals with a 25-15 and 25-14 win over Howardsville Christian in the quarterfinals and a 25-10 and 25-12 win over New Buffalo in the semifinals.
Buchanan made it to the finals with a 25-9 and 25-10 victory over Watervliet in the quarterfinals and a 25-20 and 25-16 win over Cassopolis in the semifinals.
The Lady Rangers reached the semifinals with a 26-24 and 25-19 win over Eau Claire in the quarterfinals.
Buchanan won its pool with a 6-0 record. Bangor was second with a 4-2 mark, while Eau Claire and Howardsville Christian were both 1-5.
River Valley was 6-0 to win its pool. Cassopolis was 4-2, while New Buffalo was 2-4 and Watervliet 0-6.
The Lady Rangers are back in action on Wednesday when they host Berrien Springs in their Lakeland Conference opener.
