NILES – Waiting in line for tickets is not an unusual practice.
Plenty of die-hard rock fans have camped out for a chance to see their favorite band.
College students have been known to crash in tents outside stadiums waiting to purchase season tickets for basketball.
On Wednesday, people were holding down a place in line at the Niles Super Wal-Mart. But this indoor camp-out was not for access to an event, it meant a chance at bringing home the newest in video game technology.
"What I've heard is if you don't get them this time … they won't be available until February," said an Edwardsburg mother of three boys and three girls ranging in age from 9- to 21-years old.
She was one of three people stationed at the back of Wal-Mart behind the electronics department in the layaway area for a chance at a PlayStation 3.
The video game console is being released midnight Friday, which means she had, at noon Wednesday, about a 36-hour wait.
There are two options for the PlayStation 3 and each person waiting in line is given a black or white wristband depending on the version they want.
The console with the 20 GB hard drive retails for $499, and $599 covers the cost of the 60 GB option. Both versions come with one wireless controller, but no games, which can each cost an additional $60. Each PlayStation 3 also has the ability to play CDs and DVDs.
