CASSOPOLIS – Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that his deputies investigated a personal-injury traffic crash Wednesday at M-51 North near Burmax Park in Wayne Township.
Deputies stated that a vehicle driven by Jose Mendoza, 23, of Dowagaic, was northbound on M-51.
The vehicle crossed the center line and then went back into the nortbound lane.
A vehicle driven by Audrey Atkinson, 66, of Dowagiac, was southbound on M-51.
The Atkinson vehicle feared that the Mendoza vehicle was going to strike her and she swerved to the left.
The Mendoza vehicle swerved to the right and the vehicles hit each other.
Both sustained minor injuries, with Dowagiac ambulance transporting Atkinson and Sister Lakes ambulance transporting Mendoza.
Both people went to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac where they were listed in good condition.
Safety belts were used. Alcohol is a factor in the case.
The Cass County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Dowagiac Fire Department and Dowagiac Police Department. The case remains under investigation at this time.
