The Dowagiac Performing Arts Center had a great first year.
We have established a reputation for quality productions with an emphasis on meeting the individual needs of each production.
The highly successful spring musical "Annie Get Your Gun" was very well received by all those in attendance, setting the bar for more exceptional dramatic productions to come.
The fall play, "Over the River and Through the Woods," scheduled for Nov. 17 and 18, is in the production stages and stands to be another in a long line of great productions by our drama students.
We are looking forward to a wonderful night with the South Bend Vesper Chorale in a joint concert with our K-12 school choirs on Nov. 11.
The holiday season is sure to bring us many great festive concerts by all the bands and choirs.
Several improvements to our facility are completed and/or nearly completed that will improve our capabilities.
We will have improved lighting with many new fixtures and new circuit locations.
We will now be able to digitally record all events both for audio and video.
Great strides in playback capability will include mini-disk storage, editing and playback of sound effects.
A major project has just been completed that will change dramatically the sound quality for audiences.
In a joint effort with the sound designer, architect and sound contractor, we have moved the audio reinforcement cabinets down into closer proximity to the audience, which will result in improved intelligibility and clarity for all events while maintaining the pleasant natural resonances of the space.
We have made many improvements to our facility this year and I am confident that we will continue to improve our facility and thus open up many areas of interest to our students.
I am looking forward to all our great events and again, this year, I am encouraged by the level of interest and commitment our students have to making each event a great success both on stage and behind the scenes.
