The Niles boys' cross country team and the Lakeshore girls' team captured the Rock 'N Run held at Dowagiac Middle School on Thursday afternoon.
The Vikings easily outdistanced runner-up Battle Creek Lakeview. Niles finished with 51 points, while Lakeview finished with 65 points.
St. Joseph was third with 77 points and Berrien Springs fourth with 118 points. Kalamazoo Christian finished fifth with 131 points. Dowagiac was seventh with 166 points.
Lakeshore scored 32 points to easily defeat Niles in the girl's portion of the race. The Lady Vikings finished with 81 points. Kalamazoo Christian was third with 83 points, while Battle Creek Lakeview and St. Joseph finished fourth and fifth with 91 and 97 points respectively.
Dowagiac did not field a full team.
Tommy Vigen of Kalamazoo Christian was the boys' overall winner with a time of 16:40. Amanda Bulk of Lakeshore was the girls' overall winner with a clocking of 20:03.
Andrew Cuthbert led Dowagiac with an 18th place finish and a time of 18:33. Kasey Proshwitz was 30th with a time of 19:21. Evan Bressler was 35th (19:45), Jason Fryman 41st (20:13), Eric Morton 42nd (20:14), John Morseau 45th (20:24) and Tony Saviano 53rd (21:54).
For the Chieftain girls, Kayla Saviano was the first across the finish line as she placed 50th with a time of 25:05. Chelsey Preston was 54th (25:38), Ali Hess 77th (30:13) and Katie Hewitt 83rd (32:51).
