Dowagiac JV football team rips Comstock, 32-8

The Dowagiac junior varsity football team remained undefeated Thursday night with a 32-8 victory over visiting Comstock at Chris Taylor-Alumni Field.
The Chieftains are now 5-0 on the season.
Brandon Roberts scored a pair of first quarter touchdowns for the Chieftains, who grabbed a quick 13-0 lead on the Colts.
Roberts scored a rushing touchdown and then caught a pass from quarterback Shaun Bruens for his second score.
Tim DeRyder also a rushing touchdown for the Chieftains, while Jason Bailey intercepted a pass and returned it for a score.
Jeremy Nowak blocked a Comstock punt, which was scooped up by Aaron Caldwell and returned for a score.
"The defense played an excellent game again," Dowagiac coach Matt Alward said. "We picked off three of their passes and had the blocked punt."
Michael Filley kicked a pair of extra points for the Chieftains.
Freshmen football
The Dowagiac freshmen football team dropped a 42-6 decision to visiting Comstock Thursday afternoon.
Pierre Reed scored the lone touchdown for the Chieftains.
Dowagiac is now 0-5 on the season.
Jr. High football
The Dowagiac seventh grade football team defeated host South Haven Wednesday afternoon, 22-0.
Dowagiac had 235 yards rushing, while it held South Haven to just 32 yards in total offense.
Dowagiac had five sacks and recovered two fumbles.
Hazen McMeeken rushed for 74 yards, while Rashad Smith had 33 yards rushing, a touchdown, a two-point conversion, six tackles and a sack.
Anthony Banks added 30 yards rushing. Tony Brooks finished with 46 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Daniel Crandall rushed for 36 yards and a score.
Dontrell Tucker was one of the Chieftains' defensive standouts with three sacks and a fumble recovery.
Dowagiac returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts St. Joe Upton.
