STEVENSVILLE – The offensive struggles of the Dowagiac girls' varsity basketball team continued Tuesday night as host Lakeshore posted a 57-27 non-conference victory over the Chieftains.
The loss dropped Dowagiac to 0-2 on the season.
Lakeshore canned 23 baskets compared to 13 for the Chieftains. Dowagiac held a 6-4 advantage in 3-point baskets, but Lakeshore had 19 buckets from inside the arc compared to just seven for Dowagiac.
The Lady Lancers also outscored the Chieftains 7-5 from the free throw line.
Lakeshore jumped out to a 19-12 advantage after one period of play. Both teams scored 12 points in the second quarter, leaving Lakeshore with a 31-24 halftime advantage.
The Lady Lancers put the game away in the third quarter when they outscored Dowagiac 17-5. Lakeshore held a 9-8 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes.
Katie O'Connor scored a game-high 18 points for the Lady Lancers, who also got 13 points from Katie Pappa.
Dowagiac was led by Holly Lowe's 13 points. Torie Lowe chipped in 10 points, while Beth Williams finished with seven. Dowagiac's leading scorer from a season ago, Katy Stuppy, was held to just five points by the Lakeshore defense.
Dowagiac returns to action on Thursday when it travels to Vicksburg for its Wolverine Conference opener.
