Take time to smell the – manure?

This morning I had to slow down on a rural road off of Dailey as six deer were trying to decide which way to go.
Three ended up crossing in front of my vehicle going into the woods and the other three took off in the other direction across a field.
Though watching for deer, especially in the early morning hours, or at dusk, can make one have to take the cruise off 55, what a treat for our eyes.
I don't remember ever even seeing a deer when I lived outside Chicago. Here wildlife abounds.
The other morning, near my house, I slowed to watch a mother wild turkey followed by a line of babies.
Unfortunately they scurried into the brush before I could put my digital card into my camera.
I haven't seen the cougars people were talking about being in this area. I have seen a few foxes. One I thought was my dog, until I realized my dog wasn't out by the corn field.
I especially love seeing all the horses as I travel through the countryside. I guess my childhood dream of owning a horse will never go away.
The cows are okay, but not my favorites. Still I used to know if I was late for work by which part of the pasture the dairy cows had reached, after being milked in the morning.
When I was a young girl I saw a just born calf out in a field on my uncle's farm. Not knowing better, I went to get closer. He saved me just as the mother was about to charge.
And pigs, well they are certainly cute when they are babies.
You have to be careful there too from over protective mothers. I learned this when I tried to stop and get so photos of some cute little piglets. The huge sow was ready to jump the fence in defense of her babies.
I need to find my bird book so I can learn to distinguish between the birds. I know some are hawks, but I don't know what kind.
Jerry at work has seen a bald eagle in this neck of the woods, but I never have.
At my house I am enjoying the hummingbirds. What an amazing species.
People in the city would love to be able to see and enjoy the wildlife we see every day.
So instead of cussing when you have to slow down, why not accept this moment of peace and relax. Your job or appointment or wherever you are rushing to will still be there a few minutes later.
Really I still can't figure out why people keep complaining about the rising cost of a gallon of gas and then they continue to waste gas speeding and hurrying, just to be stopped at a light or stop sign.
The same people who get their shots and take vitamins, exercise and are concerned with their health, will think nothing of trying to pass in a no passing zone or will tailgate.
If a car had been right behind me this morning, when I needed to brake for those deer, I am sure I would have been rear-ended.
