WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph) recently announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce has awarded the Southwestern Michigan Commission a $51,628 Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to help improve the region's economy.
The Southwestern Michigan Commission, located in Benton Harbor, will use the funding to support long-term regional economic development planning efforts in Berrien, Van Buren and Cass counties.
The Southwest Michigan Commission analyzes local economies and develops investment strategies that will help local communities grow and improve, through job creation and higher wages. Their activities also include researching grant opportunities, grant writing and helping other projects work through the EDA grant process.
