NILES - The Four Flags Snowmobile Club will begin putting in the trails today and Saturday. If you are able to participate, please contact either Reid (684-5375) or Lee (683-0986) as soon as possible. As an incentive, anyone that helps will be given a free club membership for the 2005-2006 season.
With the possibility of an early snowfall, snowmobiler's are reminded that the snowmobiling season does not start until Dec. 1, and only if the trails have been officially marked by that time, and if there is a minimum of four inches of snow on the ground.
This cautionary advisory is especially important at this time of the year, as the hunting season is still in progress, which is all the more reason that snowmobilier's must not be in the fields, competing with the hunters.
The other danger that exists when snowmobiler's use the trails before their official opening is that it can disrupt the seasonal work that is being done by the landowners to their property.
When these disruptions occur, landowners may decide to no longer lease their property for snowmobile use. Some re-routing of the trails is taking place this year, due to landowners having planted winter wheat. Because of this, the trails will not be completed until Saturday, Dec. 3.
