Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce is proud to join the Masons of Dowagiac in celebration of 150 years of Masonry.
Chamber member Vincent J. Jewelers joins non-profit member Peninsular Lodge 10, Free and Accepted Masons (F&AM) in sponsorship of the Dowagiac Chamber Business After Hours “On Front Street” Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The evening begins at Vincent J. Jewelers, 118 S. Front St., for a period of refreshment and fellowship.
The party then moves to the Masonic Center, 120 1/2 S. Front St., to meet guest speaker “Coach” Bob Chmiel.
The Coach is regularly heard on “Weekday Sportsbeat” on AM 960, WSBT Radio.
Chmiel has spent most of his adult life coaching football on both high school and college levels.
His coaching responsibilities have included serving as a recruiter for the University of Notre Dame and the University of Michigan.
The Masonic Lodge was chartered Jan. 11, 1855, with Philo D. Beckwith as Worshipful Master.
Many Dowagiac leaders in business, industry and public service have shared the fellowship of Masonry.
Today's Masons are found maintaining the nature trails at Kincheloe School, helping at Red Cross blood drives, assisting at The Museum at Southwestern Michigan College and directing the annual Dowagiac Memorial Day observance.
