The elections this coming Tuesday, Nov. 8, will be ignored by many. After all, it isn't an “election year,” when we vote on a new President of the United States.
Still Tuesday's election will mean the difference to many people in our communities, whether a new village president, mayor or trustees are being elected to serve you.
Whether the area's community college will continue with its programs may also be decided.
Those who have questions about the coming election can visit the web site presented by the Michigan Department of State at www.Michigan.gov/vote.
The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. To vote by absentee ballot, residents must do so in person by 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7. Those who qualify for an emergency absentee ballot may obtain one until 4 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8.
This is the first year Michigan has consolidated elections, in an effort to become more efficient and cost effective.
Though it is too late to register to vote in this coming election, you still can do so for elections in the future. Don't let someone else chose your candidate for you by not exercising your right to vote.
