Niles’ Brawley qualifies again for state cross country finals

NILES - Samantha Brawley, a sophomore at Niles High School, was the lone qualifier for the state cross country finals this weekend.
Brawley finished 10th overall in the Division 2 meet held at Portage West Middle School.
Lakeshore was the girls' champion with 81 points, while Allegan was second with 83 points.
Niles finished 10th with 244 points.
Molly Waterhouse of Vicksburg was the overall winner with a time of 19:08.
Brawley finished with a time of 20:07.
Liz VandenHeede finished 26th with a time of 21:11 for the Lady Vikings.
Autumn Grayson was 43rd (22:06), Nikki Horvath 80th (24:41), Mehgan Flynn 85th (25:03), Tami Madison 87th (25:26) and Chelsea Clark 94th (28:21).
The Niles' boys team finished 11th with 248 points.
Three Rivers was the champion with 64 points. Mattawan was second with 70.
Steve Scally was the top finisher for the Vikings as he took 26th with a time of 17:30.
Andrew Karsten finished 34th with a time of 17:46, while Daniel Geiger was 53rd (18:12), Nate Allison 65th (18:33), Brett Ortiz 70th (18:44), Nick Schuck 71st (18:45) and Andrew Wuthnow 84th (19:25).
Division 3
Kalamazoo Hackett and Kalamazoo Christian captured the boys' and girls' Division 3 regional cross country championships respectively on Saturday at Portage West Middle School.
Hackett easily outdistanced runner up Bangor. The Irish finished with 69 points compared to the Vikings' 92 points.
Kalamazoo Christian was third in the boy's portion of the meet with 113 points, while Parchment and Schoolcraft rounded out the top five with 135 and 156 points.
Dowagiac finished ninth with 222 points, Brandywine 10th with 267 points, Edwardsburg 14th with 352 points and Buchanan 16th with 368 points.
Nick Tecca of Parchment was the winner with a time of 15:59. Edwardsburg's Michael Penninger finished eighth with a time of 17:18 to qualify for this weekend's state finals.
Christian won the girl's portion of the meet with 43 points to edge Schoolcraft by two points. Hackett was a distant third with 121 points, while Bangor and Hartford were fourth and fifth with 130 and 138 points.
Edwardsburg finished seventh with 184 points, Buchanan eighth with 186 points, Dowagiac 11th with 318 points.
Leah Reames of Kalamazoo Christian was the overall winner with a time of 18:49.
Brian Wieger led the Bobcats with a 21st place finish and a time of 17:59.
Curtis Wilson was 36th with a time of 18:42, while Dan DeVos was 52nd (19:16), Tyler Weeden 59th (19:29), Cameron Roth 99th (22:14), Chase Molice 102nd (23:03) and Tom Buzzard 103rd (23:12).
Brandywine did not field a full girls squad on Saturday.
Ashley Harrel led the Lady Bobcats with a 23rd place finish and a time of 21:36.
Caylin Garrrard was 43rd (23:21), Bettina Welfe 54th (24:09) and Sara DeVos 66th (25:04).
Harper Sulier was the top Buchanan boys' finisher as he was 20th with a time of 17:57.
Jon Young finished 72nd (20:04), Bryant Miller 87th (20:54), Joshua Tidey 94th (21:05), Ryan Darmos 95th (21:16), Aaron burns 96th (21:22) and Allan Morse 104th (23:21).
Erica Curti led the Lady Bucks with a 29th place finish and a time of 22:14.
Andrea Hemminger was 31st (22:22), Ellen Siemon 35th (22:45), Stephanie Stanton 41st (23:26), Laura Kulis 50th (24:24), Kristina Lemmon 58th (25:07) and Tabatha Hipshear 63rd (25:46).
