Dowagiac blanks Tigers

The Dowagiac varsity soccer team squared its Big 16 Conference Tournament record at 1-1 with a 10-0 win over Benton Harbor on Tuesday.
Dowagiac scored all 10 goals in the first half which ended the match under the mercy rule.
It took the Chieftains 12 minutes to score the first goal and another 12 minutes to make it 2-0.
From that point on however, the Chieftains scored eight goals in the span of 16 minutes.
Nate Long gave Dowagiac a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute on an unassisted goal.
Adam Hess made it 2-0 on a goal assisted by Freddy Soto.
The Chieftains increased their lead to 3-0 in the 28th minute on a goal by Clay Hewitt which was assisted by Tony Black.
Justin Jones made it 4-0 in the 30th minute when he scored with an assist from Andrew Cuthbert.
Brian Edgerly scored in the 31st minute with an assist going to Tony Black to make it a 5-0 contest.
Black followed with the first of his three goals in the 31st minute. His goal was unassisted.
Black scored again in the 35th minute with an assist by Adolfo Andrade.
Hewitt netted his second goal of the night with an assist from Pat Brosnan in the 37th minute.
Black completed the hat trick in the 39th minute on an assist from Soto.
The Chieftains added their 10th goal in the closing minute of the first half when Brosnan scored off an assist by Jon Mitchell.
Dowagiac outshot the Tigers 41-0.
D.J. Ennesser recorded the shut out.
Dowagiac will host either Coldwater or Battle Creek Central on Thursday. The varsity match will begin at 4 p.m. with the junior varsity match to follow.
