Congratulations to Dr. George Drake, who opened his family medicine practice recently at the corner of Broadway and South Fifth Street in Niles.
Welcome to Niles!
The art of our very own Amy Beth Payne, who works in our Leader Publications graphics department, is being featured at the Colfax Center Gallery, located at 914 Lincoln Way West in South Bend, Ind, part of that gallery's annual regional exhibition art. Amy's work will be on display until Nov. 11. Amy is an incredibly talented artist. Don't miss this opportunity to see the art she has created.
Plan now to attend the open house on Monday, Oct. 24, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Brandywine Middle/High School.
The Brandywine community is very proud of the improvements made in the district, thanks to the support of Brandywine school district voters.
Take the time to see first-hand the investment you have made through your tax dollars in educating our future community leaders.
You can support the Niles Art Association by purchasing one of its 2006, inaugural calendars, ”Our Home, Our History.“;
The calendar is composed entirely by local artists who have reproduced the historical sites and buildings within our town. Each picture will include a brief history of the site and a biography of the artist. The calendar also includes a complete list of all the events scheduled in downtown Niles.
The Niles Art Association is a non-profit group located within the Fisher Gallery, 306 Main Street, Niles. The proceeds from the calendar will be used to fund a scholarship program for Niles and Brandywine seniors planning to pursue a study of the arts. The calendars may be purchased for $15 at the Riverfront Cafe, Martin's Super Market Courtesy Desk, the Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce, Andrews Tax Accounting and the St. Mary's Arts and Crafts Bazaar beginning Nov. 5. The calendar may also be pre-ordered for $12 by contacting Andrews at 683-2829.
We're very proud of Jeff Schwartz, a 2004 Niles High graduate, and Kiri Jewell, a 1998 Brandywine graduate.
Schwartz is an AmeriCorps volunteer who is at work helping to rebuild broken lives in New Orleans. Schwartz is assigned to work with New Orleans Habitat for Humanity.
Jewell made her way to the Big Apple after graduating with an economics degree from Michigan State University. After internships with ABC Primetime and 20/20, Jewell is helping to run an independent recording label, ComeTrue Records.
It's very satisfying to see Niles-raised people make their mark in our world.
