Dowagiac looking to move into top 10 at Division 4 state finals

The Division 4 state tennis finals will kick off Friday morning at various sites around Holland.
Southwestern lower Michigan will be well represented as regional champion Dowagiac, runner-up Brandywine and third place finisher Buchanan will all take part.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association has released its pairings for the finals.
Dowagiac and Brandywine both grabbed a No. 6 seed at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles respectively.
Dowagiac's Lisa Rubino is the No. 6 seed at No. 1 singles. She will have a bye in the first round.
Nicole Moyer of Buchanan is unseeded and also will have a first round bye. Brandywine's Amy Konopinski is unseeded and will face Saginaw Nouvel's Stephanie Symons in the opening round.
Bethany Daniel and Ashley Valentine are also the No. 6 seed at No. 1 doubles and will have a first round bye.
Buchanan's Robyn Bahr and Megan Vylonis are unseeded and will also have a first round bye.
Dowagiac's Lindsay Tyler and Calie Daniels are unseeded and will face Battle Creek Pennfield's Brooke Donnell and Morgan Marten in the first round.
At No. 2 singles, Dowagiac's Ann O'Keefe will take on Ashley Robinson of Bishop Foley, while Buchanan's Kayla Nelson will have a first round bye.
Brandywine's Jill Sinkoff will face Janelle Morningstar of Whitehall.
At No. 3 singles, Dowagiac's Taylor Townsend and Brandywine's Amelia Harrison both received first round byes.
Buchanan's Holly Lucas will face Harbor Springs' Alex Berry in the opening round.
Brandywine's Brittney Patterson and Buchanan's Joey Dreitzler both received first round byes at No. 4 singles.
Dowagiac's Amelia First will face Kelsey Thelen of Alma in the opening round.
At No. 2 doubles, Dowagiac's Kim Rutkowski and Ashley Smith, as well as Buchanan's Katrina Weldy and Courtney Miller each received first round byes.
Brandywine's Erin Sinkoff and Jamie Bartuska will face Harbor Springs' Alex Osetek and Ally Woodside.
All three area teams will have opening round matches at No. 3 doubles.
Buchanan's Brianne Weldy and Mary Martin will face Katie Layden and Marry Layden of Sacred Heart, while Brandywine's Erin Fuson and Samantha Quartuccio will face Natlie Bartnik and Lauren Tighe of Saginaw Nouvel.
Dowagiac's Tonya Scherer and Shelly Urbanski will face Heather Bonnell and Brittany Spencer of Otsego in the opening round.
All four are doubles teams will have opening round matches at No. 4 doubles.
Dowagiac's Kate Duszynski and Kayleigh Sundman will face Kristi Chippi and Lauren Davidson of Harbor Springs, while Brandywine's Morgan Bailey and Jordan Ferenczi will face Alex Sookhai and Nicole Franklin of Battle Creek Pennfield.
Buchanan's Jessica Welsh and Sam Haner will open with Emily Zande and Katie Gaddy of Jackson Lumen Christi.
Last year, Detroit Country Day defended its championship as it scored 35 points. Buchanan tied for 10th, Dowagiac was 12th and Brandywine finished 14th.
