CASSOPOLIS - Dowagiac native Garry Duane Means, 41, was convicted on Oct. 4 of domestic violence as a result of punching and kicking his ex-wife in the stomach.
The incident occurred Sept. 6 at 51704 M-51 in Silver Creek Township and moved its way quickly to jury trial.
On Tuesday Cass County Assistant Prosecutor Cara Hornbach successfully convinced a six-person jury that Means needed to be accountable for beating the woman.
It was the fourth consecutive guilty verdict on domestic violence cases for Hornbach, who specializes in prosecution of such cases.
Fourth District Court Judge Paul Deats immediately sentenced the defendant to 30 days in the county jail for his attack.
Means is no stranger to the criminal justice system, having been convicted of eight previous felonies ranging from property crimes to fighting with police.
