Area high school teams competing in events around Michigan since the school sports season began are showing outstanding athletic ability.
Niles' varsity golf team advanced to regional play when the Vikings took sixth place at districts last Thursday.
On Friday, the Brandywine Bobcats tennis team claimed their second straight Lakeland Conference championship.
The Lady Cats tied with Edwardsburg for the tournament championship with 17 points, but based on their perfect 6-0 regular season dual meet record, Brandywine was crowned outright champion.
Bethany Daniel became the all-time leader in victories at Brandywine on Friday when she, along with partner Ashley Valentine, won their opening round match. Daniel now has 67 career wins for the Lady Bobcats.
Also on Friday, Brandywine and Buchanan's golf teams missed team qualifying to advance to regionals, but are each sending three individual players. Adam Houin and Matt Adams will both be representing the Bucks, while Justin Ely will represent the Bobcats.
On Saturday, The Niles boys' cross country team dominated the Berrien County meet in St. Joseph as the Vikings captured first place.
Steve Scally, Andrew Karsten and Nate Allison placed in the top ten for the Vikings.
Congratulations to all teams and individuals on their success. Thank you
to all who have supported these athletes this season.
