Chieftains claim crown

The Dowagiac tennis team captured its third consecutive tournament championship Saturday as it won the Edwardsburg Invitational.
It was the second time that Dowagiac has won the Edwardsburg tournament.
The Chieftains finished with 12 points, while the host Lady Eddies finished with seven points and South Haven five points. Constantine withdrew from the tournament.
Dowagiac won three out of the four singles flight championships and were doubles champions at No. 1 and No. 2.
Bringing home titles in singles were Lisa Rubino (2-0), Taylor Townsend (1-0) and Amelia First (2-0) at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 respectively.
Calie Daniels and Lindsay Tyler captured the No. 1 doubles title, while, Ashley Smith and Kim Rutkowski won their first tournament championship at No. 2 doubles.
Dowagiac will now set its sights on the busiest week of the year.
The Chieftains travel to Battle Creek Lakeview today for its final Big 16 Conference crossover match. On Tuesday the Chieftains head to Niles for a non-conference match against Brandywine.
Today's match is set for 4:30 p.m.
The Chieftains will then entertain Edwardsburg in a non-conference match on Wednesday before participating in the Big 16 Gold Tournament on Saturday.
