NILES - On Saturday, Sept. 24, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. the Riverfront Optimist Club is holding a benefit concert at the Riverfront Park Amphitheater to help raise funds for the hurricane victims.
The event is being coordinated by Lisa Croteau, the downtown marketing director and Tom Majerek, who has lined up bands to provide hour-long sessions of entertainment at the event.
Mardy Grzegorek, the manager of Majerek's Hallmark Readers World is credited with coming up with the idea for the benefit concert.
Funds raised will go to one or all of the following: The American Red Cross, the National Trust Hurricane Relief Fund, or local agencies such as Niles Salvation Army or United Way of Niles.
Special items are being put together to be auctioned off. Some of the items already lined up to be auctioned off are to have lunch with Mayor Mike McCauslin, winning the chance to be co-host of WNIL'S Gloria's Place with Gloria Cooper for a day and from Chief Larry Lamb of the Niles City Fire Department, a trip in the department's tower bucket to 95 feet in the air for two people anywhere in the city.
The concert fee is cash donation of your choice. In addition to cash, goods will be accepted.
Please make checks to "Riverfront Optimists." One hundred percent of the proceeds are going to the relief efforts.
