NILES - If there is one thing Buchanan girls basketball coach Bill Weaver is excited about this season, it's the potential his team has.
The Bucks return five players from last year's squad, three being starters.
Young players also mean a bright future for the Bucks.
Returning for Buchanan is Leteshia Shannon, who is the only senior on the team, junior Katie Backus and Ashley Pointer and sophomores Danielle Bachleda and Hayley Cashier.
Last season, the Bucks went 8-14 overall, 6-8 in the Lakeland Conference (LAC), but Weaver hopes to improve that record this year.
Weaver admitted that the LAC should be pretty competitive and that "everyone" is a threat.
The Bucks open their season Aug. 30 when they host Lake Michigan Catholic. The JV game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m., with varsity following.
