DUHS netters open season with split

The Dowagiac junior varsity tennis team kicked off its season Friday afternoon on the new courts at the Dowagiac Middle School against visiting Cassopolis.
Dowagiac ended up with a 4-4 split against Cassopolis' varsity squad.
The two squads split in singles and doubles matches.
Dowagiac's Shelly Urbanski picked up a victory at No. 2 singles against Kelly Klimek (6-1, 6-3), while Elizabeth Kolden earned a victory at No. 4 singles against Qatisha Stephenson (4-6, 6-2 , 6-4).
In doubles play, Dowagiac earned victories in the second and fourth flights.
Jessica Robinson and Lindsay Meiser defeated Krista Jessup and Amy Bloss 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, while Brianne Emmons and Jessica Karnes defeated Courtney Bellis and Calie Miracle 6-0, 6-0.
Dowagiac will return to the court on Friday when the varsity opens up its season against visiting Three Rivers at 4 p.m.
