Vikes improve at Bronson

NILES - For only attending its second Invitational of the season. the Niles golf team appears to be in pretty good shape so far.
The Vikings took third place Monday at the Coloma Invitational and moved up to second place out of 18 schools in attendance Tuesday in the Bronson Invitational held at the Prairie River Golf Course.
Niles had a total team score of 121, while first place winner Coldwater had 143.
Team points were based on birdies, pars and boogies, with the two worst scores thrown out.
Alex Welch and Jeff Jurgonski both shot a 76 on the day.
D.J. Wolnick shot an 81, Scott Majerek wasn't far behind with an 82, Chris Haase shot an 83 and Nick Horn shot an 85 for Niles.
Welch and Jurgonski both received individual medals for their scores, with Welch finishing sixth and Jurgonski finishing seventh.
Jurgonski also received a prize for his "closest to the hole" drive, which fell seven feet, five inches on hole No. 2.
Also receiving a prize was Wolnick, when we came within four inches on hole No. 6.
The Vikings returned to action this morning at the Gull Lake Invitational, which began at 9 a.m.
Edwardsburg also participated in the Bronson Invitational and finished with a team score of 85.
Ryan Stoneburner led his team with an 81, Khris Merrill had an 86, Nate Harness shot an 89, James Hentz shot a 93, Mike Fantetti shot a 94 and Ryan Morrell-Peters shot a 96 for the Eddies.
